“I just kept pushing my way” – Patrick Keelty tells how he once set the record for the most speeding in Northern Ireland.

Comedian Patrick Keelty has revealed that he once set the record for the most serious speeding violation in Northern Ireland.

This came after he was once caught driving at 132 mph (212 km/h) on a road in Belfast in the 1990s, almost twice the speed limit.

The Co Down man told the story of his Alfa Romeo GTV adventure on Adrian Flux’s “Fueling Around” podcast.

He said: “Eventually I was caught at the highest recorded speed on a road in Northern Ireland, which at that stage I think was 132 (mph). It must have been 25 years ago. ceasefire in Northern Ireland.

There were a lot of cases in the courts at the time, and in terms of priorities, “there was no acceleration,” he said.

He had just bought a new car and got carried away when he hit a stretch of road, he added.

“It was a beautiful summer evening. It was about eight o’clock, there was simply not a single car on the highway. Leaving Belfast, I just turned this corner and there was nothing there.

“I had a straight in front of me and I just kept pressing the gas pedal. I didn’t really know how fast the car was and I suddenly looked up and just said “wow wow”. I think, “What is he wearing? He must want to race.”

“It turns out it was an unmarked police car. The idea of stupidity, a new car and speed; it was a hefty, hefty fine and I nearly walked away with the books. Lesson learned, guys, lesson learned,” he said.

However, this won’t be the last time Mr. Kilty is caught speeding.

Police later recorded him exceeding the speed limit of 163 km/h in Scotland in 2008. Keelty was forced to write a letter to the Stranraer Sheriff’s Court admitting that he was driving 66 km/h over the speed limit on the infamous stretch of road known as the A75 Gretna-Stranraer Road in Dumfries and Galloway.

He was later fined £1,200 (€1,390) and given six demerit points, but was not removed from the roads.
