The iMac is one of the computers that has seen the most design changes throughout its history. However, it has always remained true to its essence of being a team with all components integrated into one and the same body.
It is precisely this housing element that has changed the most. And now, according to a recently published patent, we may well see an iMac with built-in glass pieces. A totally futuristic, minimalist, and radical proposal that would change the concept of a desktop computer in terms of design
This is what the iMac of the future will look like
The patent bears the official name “Glass-Cased Electronic Device”. The abstract of the patent document shows what the iMac will look like, first defining the parts that will make up the computer: “There is an electronic device that consists of a glass case. This glass case consists of the following: a first sheet of glass that defines a continuous front surface on the exterior of the case, and a second sheet of glass that defines the exterior back surface.”
The structure of the iMac
The description goes on to explain how the various pieces of computer glass fit together to form a complete iMac: “The first and second panes of glass define the upper portion of the glass enclosure and the lower portion of the screen. A small portion of the glass body, positioned at an angle to the main body, defines an input area; and a transition section defines a curved area between the front and back of the glass case.”
The computer, even if it is made of glass, will not be a rigid piece with no movement. “The glass case is designed to flex at the junction in response to the articulation of the first piece relative to the second.”
The screen and how it works
From the general construction, we then talk about how the computer screen will fit. “The electronic device includes a screen positioned between the first and second panes of glass, and the second pane is configured to provide graphical output through the first pane.”
After discussing the location of the screen itself, they provide information on how it is prepared for operation: “The electronic device also includes another input device, positioned between the first and second panes of glass and configured to recognize an input.” through the first pane of glass.
