In 2023 more than 153 thousand Cuban immigrants arrived in the United States

The Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP) confirmed that in the month of December, 25,060 Cubans arrived in the United States.

With them, the number of immigrants from the island who arrived in the United States in 2023 increased to 153,654.

Last year, the migratory wave from the island brought more than 300,000 Cuban immigrants to US territory.

In terms of the fiscal year (The federal government considers the 12 months between October 1 of a year and September 30 in the following), the December figure reveals a growing trend in this fiscal year 2024, which began in October, when 18,074 were detected by the border authorities; In November it rose to 20,074, adding more than 25 thousand reported on Friday, defining a total of 63,208 Cubans in the current fiscal period (FY 2024).

In the fiscal year 2023, which ended on September 30 of that year, the Customs and Border Protection confirmed that 200,287 Cubans arrived at the borders of the United States.

The US authorities themselves recognized that illegal crossings from Mexico reached their peak in December, the majority from Tucson, Arizona; Del Rio, Texas and San Diego.

The Border Patrol recorded 249,785 arrests on the border with Mexico in the last month of 2023, 31% more than 191,112 in November and 13% more than 222,018 in December 2022, the previous high period.

The United States also reported that by the end of December 2023, 327,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans had arrived legally under parole procedures.

Specifically, more than 69,000 Cubans, 133,000 Haitians, 60,000 Nicaraguans and 87,000 Venezuelans were examined and authorized to travel to the United States.

Federal authorities admitted 45,770 people crossing the land border into Mexico in December through the CBP One application.

With these mechanisms, the US government seeks to discourage illegal immigration and warns that those who try to arrive in the country illegally, either by land or sea, and are caught, will be disqualified from applying for the planned immigration benefits.
