The Pyramid Stage hosted many talents on the first day, including Lorde, Elbow, Herbie Hancock, Ukrainian artist Dakhbrakha and the Black Dyke band of brass instruments.

Nearly four million people flocked to see Sir Paul McCartney’s history-making headline on Saturday night with surprise guests Dave Grohl and Bruce Springsteen.

The broadcaster said the show had an average viewership of 3.9 million on BBC One and 2.6 million on BBC One.
