New Delhi: The G7 (Group of Seven) summit held this year has come to an end. This was the 47th summit of the G7, which ran from 11 to 13 June. Britain presided over this summit. During this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the mantra of “One Earth, One Health”. German Chancellor Merkel specifically referred to PM Modi’s mantra “One Earth, One Health” and supported his message
Now the Ministry of External Affairs has given a statement regarding this summit that our participation was fruitful, productive and we look forward to taking forward our participation in various initiatives leading up to COP26.
On behalf of the ministry, Additional Secretary (Economic Relations) P Harish has said that – India stands firmly with the G7 and guest countries. This is the first time that India has joined on the ministry and work-level front as a guest country.
Along with this, the Ministry of External Affairs has also made a statement that – three broad tracks of discussion in the last two days were focused on vaccines and recovery from COVID-19, environment and climate change, open societies and open economies.
The theme selected by the UK for this year’s summit was “Build Back Better” in the context of the devastating impact of the pandemic over the past 18 months and the need for policy-driven ambitious and targeted measures.
PM Modi virtually attended the G-7 summit. The UK told us that PM Boris Johnson was disappointed at not being able to personally welcome PM Modi to the summit. They were understanding the situation and were supporting our decision.
