In a session of the General Council of the INE, the agreement was approved, establishing the limits of expenses that presidential candidates and candidates for federal deputies and senators can make with a relative majority.
The amount was approved by the Commission of Prerogatives and Political Parties on Tuesday, and this Thursday it was approved by the General Council. no discussion or reservation.
In 2018, the presidential campaign spending limit was 429 million, 633 thousand, and 325 pesos.
Therefore, the limit allowed for spending for the presidential pre-campaign in the current election process is almost 86 million pesos, equal to 20 percent of the spending limit for the previous presidential campaign.
The 661 million pesos that will be spent by the presidential candidates are equal to 20 percent of the total amount of public financing for campaign expenses approved for the current election process for all political parties, amounting to more than 3,304 million pesos.
The amount applies to coalition candidates and individual political parties, as well as independent candidates.
However, for independent presidential candidates, the constitutional principle of prevalence does not apply to them; public financing rather than private financing corresponds to political parties.
For this reason, in the agreement approved by the General Council, the Technical Inspection Unit was instructed to present a proposal for private financing limits that non-party applicants may receive.
The pre-campaign starts on November 5 and ends on January 3, 2024, while the campaign starts on March 1, 2024, and ends on May 29.
Limits for deputies and senators
In this regard, the limit of campaign costs that the candidates for federal deputies should respect is 2 million 203 thousand 262 pesos.
The spending limit for the pre-campaign of the federal deputations will be 329,638 pesos.
For its part, the limit for approved senatorial candidates is 44 million 65 thousand pesos proposed for the formulas of Mexico City, Hidalgo, and the State of Mexico, while, for other entities, the amount gradually decreases.
In the pre-campaign, those who want to be senatorial candidates can spend up to 5 million, 728 thousand pesos, depending on the state where their wish corresponds.
