An endless list of groups, and even residents outside the territory, participate in this initiative aimed at buying medicines, supplies, and other products needed for the island, which has suffered from the blockade imposed by the United States for more than 60 years.
“This unity is not only limited to gathering resources; our unity must be political, moral, and material,” stated Vasili Carrillo, one of the coordinators of the so-called Internationalist Action in Support of Cuba, at the closing ceremony.
Among the participants of this crusade, he mentioned the association of residents of Raíces Cubanas, the Internationalist Collective, Siboney, the José Martí Association, the Metropolitan Coordinator of Solidarity with Cuba, and other groups of the Movement in support of the Caribbean country.
From Temuco, Osorno, Valdivia, Concepción, Rancagua, Coquimbo, Valparaíso, Viña, and Santiago, the groups joined together to make an important contribution, he said.
Representative Boris Barrera, for his part, stated that the most comforting thing about this campaign is seeing so many people united and that, thanks to Cuba,
Everyone owed so much to that small island, but with a heart and soul so big that he knew how to fight and resist the most powerful empire in the world, he remembered.
Barrera demanded an end to the economic, commercial, and financial siege against the Caribbean country and its removal from the list of alleged sponsors of terrorism.
The political cultural event to close the campaign took place last night at the Alejandro Lipschutz Science Institute and featured performances by artists such as Pancho Villa and Cecilia Concha Laborde, among others.
Rosario Rodríguez, first secretary of the Cuban embassy in Chile, thanked on behalf of the Cuban Party and Government all the groups, organizations, and friends who accepted this idea back in May, and now it is a dream come true.
There were many actions taken to get here, he said.
The Cuban consul in Chile, Yoel Guerra, and the human rights lawyer Hugo Gutiérrez, among other personalities, also participated in the event.
