UNICEF condemns more than 400 Palestinian children killed or injured every day due to Israeli bombardment of Gaza
The United Nations Children’s Agency (UNICEF) reported this Tuesday that more than 400 Palestinian children are killed or injured every day in the Israeli bombardment against the Gaza Strip, within the framework of the open war between the Israeli Army and Hamas.
“In the past 18 days, the Gaza Strip has witnessed a devastating number of child victims: 2,360 deaths and 5,364 injuries have been reported due to the incessant attacks, which means that more than 400 children are killed or injured every day,” read a statement.
The regional director of UNICEF for the Middle East and North Africa, Adele Khodr, stated that “the situation in the Gaza Strip is a growing stain” on the collective conscience due to the number of minor victims It is “just amazing.”
“Even more alarming is the fact that unless tensions are eased and unless humanitarian aid, including food, water, medical supplies, and fuel, is allowed, the daily death toll will continue to rise,” he said, saying that “without humanitarian access, the deaths of the attacks could be the tip of the iceberg.” He pointed out the possibility that the number will increase if incubators fail, hospitals are closed, or children continue to drink contaminated water and have no access to medicine.
The UN agency, which also noted that 30 Israeli minors were killed and dozens remained kidnapped in Gaza, said that this period “is the deadliest development of the clashes in the Gaza Strip and Israel witnessed by the United Nations since 2006.” (EP)
