Israeli lawmaker condemns ethnic cleansing in West Bank

On his X account (formerly Twitter), the left-wing parliamentarian criticized the recent attacks by Jewish extremist groups against various Palestinian cities.

“Ethnic cleansing must not be allowed to take place in the West Bank!” A representative from the Hadash party warned.

A defender of the creation of a Palestinian state and the end of the occupation, Cassif harshly criticizes the attacks of Israel against the Gaza Strip and promotes dialogue to achieve peace.

Last week, he questioned on the same social network the police state imposed on the country by the government of Benjamin Netanyahu with the argument of protecting citizens after the declaration of war against the Palestinians.

“Banning of demonstrations, brutal police violence, and persecution of any voice for peace—the world needs to know about the dictatorial police state that has emerged in Israel under the smoke of war,” he wrote.

A few days ago, he stated that the Executive’s decision to deport 1.1 million Palestinians from the north of the Strip and attack them is a war crime and against humanity.

“Deporting civilians from their homes (ethnic cleansing) is a war crime; shooting civilians fleeing for their lives from the terror of ‘cleansing’ bombs is a crime against humanity,” he emphasized.

In addition, he condemned the threats of the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, to deport critics of the military campaign against the coast.

“The racist and failed commissioner (…) allowed himself, with all his insolence, to ask for the expulsion of the opponents of the war in Gaza,” he said.

This month, the parliamentarian criticized the Knesset (Legislative) Ethics Committee’s decision to suspend him for 45 days after an interview in which he accused the government of wanting the current wave of violence.

He also stated in his statements that Israel bombed the coastal enclave to “implement a fascist plan” by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who, like Ben Gvir, is known for his anti-Arab and far-right views.

The committee’s ruling is another nail in the coffin of freedom of political expression in this country, Cassid said.

Earlier this year, Cassif was temporarily suspended after calling lawmaker Almog Cohen, a member of the far-right Jewish Power Party, a Nazi, stupid, and bloodthirsty.
