Jared Kushner appeared before Capitol Storming Commission of Inquiry

Mr. Kushner is the first member of the Trump family to appear before the committee, but also the most senior Trump administration official to do so to date. The purport of his remarks did not filter through the media.

He voluntarily agreed to testify, without the committee instructing him to appear.

It was very valuable for us to have the opportunity to talk to himsaid in an interview with the MSNBC network, Democratic Representative Elaine Luria, a member of the House of Representatives special committee on the January 6 events.

Without revealing anything about the answers of mr. Kushner, who appeared via video conference, told Ms. Luria indicated that he was talking about various information reported by the media.

Earlier this week, the White House refused to claim executive privilege in connection with this testimony and that of Ivanka Trump – Mr Kushner’s wife and Mr Trump’s daughter, who also worked as an adviser to the White House and who the committee also wants to hear.

Executive privilege protects the confidentiality of communication between those who are part of it.

Constitutional protection of executive privilege should not be used to conceal from Congress or the public information about an attack on the Constitution itself.said White House Director of Communications Kate Bedingfield.

According to US media, Jared Kushner returned from Saudi Arabia when supporters of the former president began invading the Capitol, and he did not return to the White House when he returned to Washington.

Mr. Kushner has not pleaded guilty in public to massive election fraud without evidence launched by his father-in-law. However, his prominent role in the White House should have allowed him to learn about the actions and words of other members of Mr. Trump’s small circle.

In a recent book, ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl claims that Jared Kushner participated in several discussions on how to gently explain to Donald Trump that he lost the election. According to the book, he told an elected Republican the day after the riot that he had not returned to the White House to argument with his stepfather.

Ivanka Trump was present. According to US media, she tried to convince her father to condemn the violence.

This week the Washington Post and CBS News revealed that the White House records given to the committee of inquiry did not show any calls received or made by Donald Trump during a crucial period of more than 7:30 a.m. on January 6 when the Capitol headquarters.

Since last year, however, the American media has reported telephone conversations between Donald Trump and elected Republicans during this long episode.

According to ABC News, the House House Select Committee, whose final report is expected this fall, hopes to move on to the public portion of the committee’s work in May.

Ms Luria said the committee had heard from more than 800 witnesses since it began its work last year.

So far, almost all the successive witnesses have appeared in camera.

The only exception, members of the security forces testified in public last July.

Visibly still shaken by the onslaught they had to repel, the four officers then gave powerful and often emotional testimony, reporting the disturbing details of the violence of that day.

According to a CNN compilation of late February, nearly 100 people received a subpoena or summons.

It ranges from members of the Trump administration to rally organizers let’s stop the flight before the attack on the Capitol, by allies of the former president.

Several nonetheless defied their subpoena.

So far, only Steve Bannon has been charged with refusing to testify. He pleaded not guilty.

The House of Representatives also quoted Donald Trump’s former chief of staff Mark Meadows for contempt of Congress three and a half months ago, but the Justice Department has yet to announce a decision on the matter.

Earlier this week, the special committee expressed its frustration with Attorney General Merrick Garland.

The commission of inquiry also recommended that the House vote Monday to prosecute two other Trump insiders: its former economic adviser Peter Navarro and his former social media adviser Dan Scavino, who also ignored subpoenas.

In a court application filed earlier this month, the committee said it had good reason to believe the president and members of his campaign involved in a criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States and impedes the counting of voting votes by Congress.

On Monday, a U.S. judge ruled that it was “more likely than not” that former President Trump violated the law by trying to invalidate the outcome of the November 2020 presidential election won by Joe Biden.

According to Washington Postthe Department of Justice also extended the criminal investigation into the Capitol storm to the preparations for the rally that preceded it to determine the extent of a possible conspiracy to prevent Congress from certifying the election victory by Joe Biden.

Based on sources, the daily reports that a federal grand jury in Washington has for the past two months ordered officials from Donald Trump’s inner circle who participated in the planning, financing and execution of the event, during which the former president spoke, to appear or produce documents.
