Judge considers harassment, parts of retaliation against Inglewood Mayor Butts

A judge said on Tuesday, December 21, that he was a former girlfriend and Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr., who alleged that he was unfairly fired in 2019 and the mayor acted “every bit like Black Donald Trump.”

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Richard Burge Jr. previously issued a decision on September 20 that her failure to investigate the cause of action for sexual assault of Melanie McDaid-Dickens and to prevent sexual assault and retaliation be part of her You need to be on edge to live. complaint. He gave the plaintiff 30 days to provide more facts supporting the three claims in a revised complaint.

But defense attorney Meera Hashmal told Burge during a hearing Tuesday morning that McDaid-Dickens’ attorneys have a chance and that any plea filed by them will not change things.

“They just make new fake allegations on the right and left,” Hashmall said.

McDaid-Dickens brought her complaint on January 25, and Hashmall, an attorney for Butts & the City, argued that the law at the time only gave the plaintiffs a year from July 2019—when she received her rights-of-sue notice at the State Fair. Department of Employment and Housing and was placed on administrative leave – to file a lawsuit.

McDaid-Dickens’ attorney, Maryann Gallagher, says a new law that went into effect in January 2020 gave her client three years to bring the case.

The judge previously rejected the defense’s requests to dismiss her claims for harassment and discrimination and emotional distress, as well as violations of the state labor code.

But after the McDade-Dickens ending, which was described as a consensual relationship, Butts, “acting in every way like Black Donald Trump, targets those who dared to reprimand him.” They plotted to exterminate city human resources director Jose Cortes and city manager Artie Fields. The suit alleges that she retaliated against her career and ultimately fired the plaintiff from a job she loved.

McDade-Dickens met Butts in 2010 and volunteered to work on his mayoral campaign, Suits states. He initially asked her to serve as his office manager, but was so impressed by her knowledge and organizational skills that he promoted her to his inner circle of advisors as part of his strategy committee, the suit states.

After Butts was elected mayor in 2010, he invited McDade-Dickens to be his executive assistant.

According to the suit, “In the beginning Butts is nurturing, loving and supporting both personally and professionally.” But the relationship ultimately descended into one of “abuse, abuse of power, and sexual harassment,” the suit alleges.

Hashmall previously said the lawsuit is “filled with lewd rhetoric, a tactic designed to smear others on Ms. McDade’s wrongdoings to divert attention. It won’t work.”

According to Hashmall, the city fired McDade-Dickens after allegations of fraud and criminal behavior surfaced.
