Ken Salazar acknowledged that 70% of the weapons that enter Mexico come from the US

In the AMLO government, 65% of the weapons were confiscated

The general director of Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cristina Planter, emphasized that in the administration of the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador there was an increase in the confiscation of weapons of 65% compared to the government of Enrique Peña Nieto.

“So far this administration has seized more than 47,481 firearms, 65% more than the previous administration, of which about 650 are high caliber, mainly 50 caliber. With these weapons, criminals organizations are intimidating and face the forces of origin, they create environments of violence,” he emphasized.

He stated that 70% of the weapons seized in Mexico came from the United States.

“70% of homicides are carried out with weapons. Violence and weapons are connected to restore peace, the flow of weapons that enter our country irregularly is important,” he said.

Felipe de Jesús Gallo Gutiérrez, head of the Criminal Investigation Agency, asked the states of the Republic to implement their corresponding part in the sale of weapons, as he said, it is still waiting to register the ballistic fingerprint.

“We have a lot of complaints about the introduction of firearms into Mexico but we do very little in some states and others do a lot of ballistic fingerprint investigation to find out where the firearm was used and how many violent events. We have no relationship, which is our responsibility,” he said.

As part of the Bicentennial Understanding, the fight against arms trafficking is on the agenda between Mexico and the United States.
