Kiev warns Russia that any attack on Ukraine will be costly

KIEV. Ukraine’s foreign minister warned Russia on Thursday that an attack on his country would result in “political, economic and human losses” and would be too costly.

Russia is building up forces near its border with Ukraine, and Kiev, the United States and NATO have raised concerns about a possible Russian attack – a suggestion that the Kremlin dismissed as false.

“We are not trying to guess what [Russian President Vladimir] The head of Putin, ”said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba at a briefing.

“We are working to give him a clear understanding – a new attack on Ukraine will be too costly, so it’s better not to.”

According to him, the main goal of Kiev is to keep Russia from “further aggressive actions.”

“To do this, Moscow must clearly understand what political, economic and human losses it will incur in the event of a new stage of aggression,” Kuleba said.

The head of Ukrainian military intelligence told Military Times this weekend that Russia has deployed more than 92,000 troops around Ukraine’s borders and is preparing to attack in late January or early February.

Ukraine, which wants to join the NATO military alliance, received a large shipment of US ammunition and Javelin missiles earlier this year, prompting criticism from Moscow.

On Tuesday, the Ukrainian navy received two converted former US Coast Guard patrol boats as part of a $ 2.5 billion aid package to Ukraine, and Kuleba said Ukraine could receive one vessel from the other.

Ukraine’s ties with Russia collapsed in 2014 after Moscow backed separatists who rose up in eastern Ukraine and took control of territory that Kiev wants to reclaim. Kiev reports that nearly 14,000 people have died in the fighting since then.

Russia has not turned its back on talks with France, Germany and Ukraine on how to implement a peace agreement on eastern Ukraine, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday.
