Kim Basinger says ex-husband Alec Baldwin was not always “emotionally and mentally available” to face serious issues regarding their daughter Ireland.
“You know we’re all fine, we’re all in this together, whatever. But that’s a challenge. We’ve faced our challenges,” Basinger, 68, shared on Facebook Watch’s “Red Table Talk” Wednesday as they discussed their 26-year-old daughter’s battle with mental health.
“I don’t think Alec was emotionally or mentally available for that kind of conversation. Alec, you know, acts very differently in his life.”
While Ireland believes her father suffers from anxiety, she is convinced that his upbringing made it difficult for the 64-year-old actor to tap into his feelings, calling him “someone who grew up in a family that- Whoever will suppress or tell him is too weak to feel that way.”
Basinger and Baldwin married in 1992, welcomed Ireland in 1995, and engaged in a vicious custody battle during the 2002 split.
“There are things I would go to my father for,” Ireland continued, “but if I ever try to have this conversation with him, I don’t think he’ll really absorb any of it.” will do.”
For a time, Ireland did not speak to either of her parents because of her substance abuse.
“There’s a lot of alcohol and drug addiction in my family,” he said during a one-on-one segment with 21-year-old Willow Smith. Couldn’t even sleep at night.
“I had torn apart all my real friends, had torn apart my family. I had no control over anything in my life. I tortured myself with the eating disorders that I had. I didn’t talk to my parents for a year. I saw them here and there, but I was very ashamed of who I had become and how I was living. ,
She has since repaired her relationship with her parents and has been “free of anorexia and bulimia” for years now.
Alec is currently expecting his eighth child, his seventh child with current wife Hilaria Baldwin.
