Kinzinger: January 6 Probe ‘Not Winding Down,’ Will ‘Open Eyes’ on Trump’s Inaction

The House Select Committee investigating the January 6 Capitol attack is “not closing down” and is only nearing the end of a set of hearings that this week will open “people’s eyes in a big way” on former President Donald Trump, Rep. “. Adam Kizinger (R-Ill.) said on Sunday.

“We keep new people coming in every day with information wanting to go on record. So it’s amazing that, since this hearing started, the information we’ve been getting has accelerated rapidly,” he told CBS News. Said in an interview with “Face the Nation.”

The committee will hold its eighth hearing Thursday night, which focused on Trump’s actions, hours after he rallied his supporters to march to the Capitol.

“The reality is, I’ll give you this preview, the president didn’t do much, but gleefully watched television during this time frame,” Kizinger said.

It was discussed to be the final public hearing, although Kinzinger said he expected additional hearings later this week, depending on what new information emerged. He is also expected to hear one or two more after the final report of the committee comes out.

The committee is still discussing whether to summon former Vice President Mike Pence, whom Kizinger said he personally did not think was necessary.

“I’m not sure we’ll get a ton more from what his staff has already told us,” he said, sharing that the committee seems more focused on whether to interview Trump — so Not that Kizinger believes he will get the truth out of him.

“Donald Trump has made it clear that he doesn’t mind not telling the truth, let’s put it mildly. He lies all the time, I wouldn’t hire him to lie under oath. So I’m not sure That’s what the value is,” he said.

The committee has said that it will dissolve after 30 days of releasing its final report, which will detail its findings, findings and recommendations for corrective measures.
