Ten advisers from the National Electoral Institute (INE) have asked the president, Guadalupe Taddei, to hold a session where the issue of the parity of governorships to be contested next year will be put to the vote again.
Although the six who voted against the project in general, amid a confusion of criteria, demanded that the call be “extremely urgent”, sources from the organization said that it could be called for Monday night or Tuesday next week.
On Thursday, an unprecedented vote was obtained by the general council of the INE that led to the scrapping of the project that proposed to order the parties to nominate five women and four men. The above, although 10 out of 11 councilors spoke in favor of the agreement.
In principle, councilors Claudia Zavala, Dania Ravel, Jaime Rivera, Arturo Castillo, Carla Humphrey, and MartÃn Faz sent a joint letter to Taddei’s office, with the aforementioned urgent request.
Later, letters from Rita Bell López, Jorge Montaño, Norma de la Cruz, and even Uuc-kib Espadas were added, asking for an extraordinary meeting.
Espadas was the only one to speak against the draft agreement in Thursday’s cut session.
In his letter, he indicated: “Although I consider that the agreement in question is not against the constitution, I do not believe that what is shown is that due to the lack of regulation of some members of the General Council, an agreement that has the support of the majority. of the General Council rejected.”
Therefore, he added, “I request that you, to give continuity to the work that must be done by this Institute for the federal election process of 2023-2024, please call a new session of the General Council as soon as possible, in such a way as to suggest that.”
The uproar occurred after Councilman Zavala proposed adding to the project and Espadas talked about voting on aspects of it in particular.
Later, in an interview, the counselor stated that there was “regrettable management” of the session.
“From the title (the document) has changed, one is to establish criteria and the other is to adopt the criteria required by the electoral court of us, then, the reasons will change…You cannot endorse the general what is different, and we explain it; I don’t want to think that if we vote in general, they will later tell us that we can’t change it. “That’s not right, these are inappropriate questions.”
-This is a trap?
-Well, now that you told me, I see it like this; I didn’t think about it but it’s very likely.
