The reigning champions of the Dominican Republic will face Cuba this Tuesday at 17:00 in the afternoon in a bid to defend their crown The start of the 2023 NORCECA Continental Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship will be held in Quebec, Canada and will end on September 3rd and 3rd.
The Dominican team traveled to Quebec, Canada this Sunday and will complete their training sessions for the volleyball competition today.
Team leader Marcos Kwiek announced that the Dominican Republic will come up with their full squad for the occasion, with stars Brayelin MartÃnez and libero Brenda Castillo returning to the pitch, who did not feature in the recently concluded III NORCECA Final Six of the tournament.
“Yes, Brayelin MartÃnez and Brenda Castillo will be active in this NORCECA tournament, they have been training and they are in excellent shape,” Marcos said in a press release.
Seven women’s national teams will compete over six days, including reigning Olympic champions USA, reigning NORCECA champions Dominican Republic, as well as Cuba, Costa Rica, Mexico, Puerto Rico and host country Canada.
The teams are divided into two groups. Group A consists of Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico, while Cuba, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and the United States are in Group B.
After the first three rounds of the group, the group winners advance to the semi-finals, while the second- and third-placed teams compete in the quarter-finals.
Cuba is the biggest winner in the history of the event with 13 titles, 7 silver medals and 2 bronze medals; followed by the United States with a total of 8 gold, 12 silver and 3 bronze medals. The current champions, the Dominican Republic, have 3 gold medals, having won the previous 2 editions (2021, 2019); They also have 3 silver and 5 bronze medals.
