Faced with the slaughter of more than 200,000 birds due to bird flu, representatives from the Bío Bío region asked the government to declare a State of Disaster for the Florida municipality.
Due to the complex scenario and the drop in productivity, the poultry company confirmed to Radio Bío Bío that the layoffs of workers have begun. In the area, there are hundreds of families that depend on this item.
The parliamentarian of the area presented a draft resolution in which they seek to ask President Gabriel Boric to declare the municipality of Florida as a Disaster Zone.
This despite the fact that the province of Concepción has been in a state of emergency for a week due to the situation of poultry farms infected with bird flu.
Rep. Roberto Arroyo argued that this measure is necessary, since the bird flu forced the slaughter of more than 200,000 birds, which represent the livelihood of the family and the company that provides work in the area.
The same thing was asked by deputy Francesca Muñoz, asserting that the flu has limited the poultry industry, bringing with it thousands of birds killed, unemployment, food price increases, uncertainty and health alerts.
Despite the fact that the state of agricultural emergency was declared on April 25, poultry producers point out that they have not received any formal and concrete measures that benefit them in this state, whose purpose was economic reaction.
Bird flu layoff begins
Ignacio Vera, director general of Avícola Chequén, pointed out that no progress has been made with the state of emergency.
