“TECNALIA makes it easy for decision-makers to create their adaptation maps through a step-by-step manual”
Las flexible adaptation roadmaps They are tools that consider uncertainty in planning for the deployment and implementation of climate change adaptation measures. In this way, their implementation can be avoided early or late and ensure that they are sufficiently covered, avoiding insufficient or excessive deployment of measures to address climate risks.
These flexible adaptation roadmaps are becoming more relevant in Europe. For more than ten years, TECNALIA has been working on the methodological development of this tool and, currently, is a key center for its transfer to practical reality in regions and cities.
In the current climate crisis, there is no precise knowledge about the magnitude of the impacts that will occur at the regional level or the time scale over which they will occur. In this context, it is important to use methods that help in decision making taking into account the said uncertainty. It will allow effective advancement of the implementation of adaptive policies.
Manual for creating route sheets
To make it easier for decision-makers to develop their action plans, TECNALIA developed a display and a manual. These resources developed under the ARCH initiative provide clear tips and steps to create a road map that is understandable, accessible, and easy to implement.
Adaptation of cities
The technology center is working on developing adaptation roadmaps in collaboration with cities like Antwerp, Bilbao, Manchester, and Valencia. In these cities, various climate risks and local challenges are addressed on an urban scale.
Nature-based solutions are very useful and cost-effective to address climate risks in cities and territories. The recently launched NBracer initiative will integrate these solutions into roadmaps to improve climate change resilience in the regions of the European Atlantic area.
