Santa Clara, Calif. – At NFL meetings in March, San Francisco 49ers management came away with the belief that the Super Bowl would return to Levi’s Stadium.
Barring a sudden change, that trust will be rewarded at the next owners’ meeting in Minneapolis. There, the 49ers’ bid for Super Bowl 60 in 2026 will be approved by the NFL, a league source confirmed to the Sports Business Journal report.
“If given the opportunity to the Bay Area, we would be honored to host Super Bowl LX,” 49ers president Al Guido said in a statement.

If the Bay Area’s proposal is accepted, the Super Bowl would return to Levi’s Stadium for the first time since the Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 and would be the third Super Bowl to be played in the Bay Area. The Niners defeated the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XIX, which was played at Stanford Stadium in 1985.
For the past few months, Niners executives have looked to Levi’s Super Bowl hopes. At the March league meetings in Phoenix, the Niners requested a $120 million loan from the NFL’s infrastructure fund to make improvements to Levi’s Stadium.
That money is set to go toward premium seats and scoreboard upgrades at Levi’s ahead of the 2026 World Cup, and to solidify its position for future Super Bowls.
Niners CEO Jed York was upbeat about the prospects of another successful Super Bowl bid.
“My optimism is very high,” York said on 28 March. “I’m pretty sure we’re going to have a Super Bowl in the near future. And it would be great to have Super Bowl 60 after hosting Super Bowl 50. Certainly being able to bring that game later would be great. Bringing the World Cup.” at Levi’s Stadium and follow the Super Bowl. These are two of the biggest sporting events in the world, and to have them back … back-to-back would be fantastic.”
