Local libraries offer varied fall events

The Butte County Library offers many fun, but also educational, fall programs for both adults and children.

For adults

In Oroville, adults with technology problems provide basic computer training. Participants can learn the basics of desktops, laptops, tablets, and phones. Visitors can bring their own devices or use public computers. Check in at the Oroville counter or call 552-5652.

The Chico Library Book Club will meet on October 28 and November 18 at 10:00 AM. Sign up by visiting tinyurl.com/y4kllyfz. The next book in rotation is Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. November selection – “There, There” by Tommy Orange.

The Oroville Thinking Readers’ Evening Book Club meets on November 2 at 7:00 pm at the Oroville branch. Contact [email protected] for meeting point or book club information. Welcome everyone. The choice of book is chosen at each meeting.

The next meeting of the Oroville Morning Readers Book Club will take place on October 20 at the Oroville branch at 10 am. Call 552-5652 Option 2 for a meeting point or book club information. Everyone is invited, and at each meeting a selection of books is selected.

The Adult Creative Writing Group meets on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 11 a.m. at the Gridley Library. Writers can share their stories, poems, and reflections with the group. Members provide feedback and support. Discussions on a variety of writing techniques and genres are provided, as well as an introduction to the online resources that the Butte County Library offers.

Conversation Literacy is a group dedicated to learning English. All levels are invited. The group meets on Mondays from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm on Zoom. Visit forms.gle/QFMk4Y53FdFACkAD8 to register.

Ladies Night Out will take place on October 15 and November 19 at the Gridley Branch. A recently released classic or old film will be shown. Snacks will be served. Men and teenagers are also welcome.

Another film event takes place on Thursday afternoon at the Chico Library from 3 pm to 6 pm. Visitors of all ages are welcome.

The adult coloring class meets on Saturdays from 11:00 to 12:00 at the Oroville branch. Coloring pages are not just for kids! It’s an hour-long journey into Coloring Your World.

Welcome Back Autumn meeting on October 30 from 2 pm to 3 pm in Oroville. Celebrate autumn with paint and crafts, word puzzles and puzzles for an hour of fun.


For children, after school, the pastime meets on Tuesdays from 3 pm to 4:30 pm at the Oroville branch. If you want to have a fun day, try this group. There will be games, LEGOs, crafts and more. There will be different activities every week.

The Oroville Youth Book Club meets on October 28 and November 18 from 2 pm to 3 pm at the Oroville branch. Bring a book you like.

LEGO Saturday meets on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm at the Oroville branch. Parental supervision is required for children under 12 years of age.

The Fairy Tales for Children meeting is held on Wednesdays at 11:00 am in Oroville.

The next Teen Book Club meeting will take place on October 23rd and November 27th at 2:00 pm on Zoom. This is a virtual book club for teens. You choose books every month, and we buy them for you.

The Teenage Writers Group meets on November 13 from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm on Zoom. Join this virtual teen writing group as members are given the opportunity to develop and expand their writing. Ask your local branch to join the mailing list. These meetings set writing goals and encourage experimentation with different writing styles and exercises to help participants submit their work to various journals for publication.

Children and adults

Afternoon poetry and tea are held on October 23 from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Oroville branch. This activity is for both children and adults. A free reservation is required for guests aged 12 and over. Check in at the Oroville counter or call 552-5652. Dressing up is encouraged but not required. Please bring your own cup, saucer and teaspoon.

The game meets on Fridays from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm in Oroville. The games featured include board games such as Above and below, Coup Reformation, Exploding Kittens, Game of Cat and Munch, Munchkin, One Night Ultimate Daybreak, Railroad Inc Challenge, Sagrada, and Sushi Go Party.
