‘Lost’ star Matthew Fox reveals why he retired from acting

We have to go back … to set.

Perhaps the most tantalizing mystery of all time, “Lost” had nothing to do with Hatch, polar bears, or even smoking monsters, but what happened to star Matthew Fox.

The actor appeared in a handful of films, including “World War Z” and “Extinction”, before leaving Hollywood after his last final onscreen role in the horror western “Bone Tomahawk.”

Before her return to television in Peacock’s upcoming apocalyptic series “Last Light,” Fox addressed long-standing speculation about why she put her acting career on pause.

The actor said of his self-imposed retirement from acting, “I just spent seven years living my life with my family and pursuing the things that I love.” “But storytelling is somehow in my DNA, and I thought this form of storytelling was something I wanted to reconnect with, and see how it felt. And I’m really glad I did.” Did that – it went well.”

Fox reported that he decided to step away from the industry after checking off all the items on his bucket list, including starring in a western film.

“after I did” [the movie] ‘Bone Tomahawk’ completed the bucket list in 2014,” he said.

The 55-year-old star, who shares two children with his wife Margherita Ronchialo, said he also chose to prioritize family time over film roles.

“At that point in my life, our kids were at an age where I felt like I really needed to reconnect,” he continued. “I had been concentrating on work for some time, and [my wife] Margherita was running the family so beautifully, but I felt like it was time to be home, and I really felt like I was retiring from business, and working on other creative elements that really Personal for me – some music and writing. ,

Fox got the opportunity to both star and executive produce a project in his first television role since “Lost” ended a decade ago.

Based on the apocalyptic novel of the same by Alex Scaro, “Last Light” is a five-episode drama series “fighting to survive in a world that has suddenly been thrown into chaos,” following the world’s The oil supply is suddenly cut off. off. The series reunites Fox with director Denny Gordon, who worked with the actor on “Party of Five,” which initially began his career.

“I got to a point where I thought maybe executive production was on the bucket list,” he said. “I’d never done that before. The opportunity to be involved in ‘Last Light’ came along, and so I wanted to give it a shot. And it felt like the right time.”

Since his days starring as Dr. Jack Shepard, Fox has faced several setbacks in his personal life, including a DUI arrest and an allegation that he punched a female bus driver. He denied her claims and charges were never filed against the driver, later withdrawing the case against him.

But a provocative tweet from Fox’s “Lost” co-star Dominic Monaghan, which claimed the actor “beats up women” only added to the negative press surrounding him at the time.

Fox later blasted Monaghan’s allegations as a “pile of crap”, commenting in 2012 that it “has been a long, trying year of sitting on my hands over a lot of negative crap about me.” Is.”

“They are the farthest things I am,” he told Men’s Fitness about the allegations. “In the 46 years I’ve been breathing on this planet, I’ve never killed a woman before. Never will, never will.”
