Voting is now open for this year’s Minnesota Department of Transportation’s “Name the Snowplow” competition.
After receiving nearly 11,000 entries in December, MnDOT staff and management expanded the list to 50 finalists for a public vote. Among them: Thawnos, Ctrl Salt Delete and Betty Whiteout.
MnDOT officials said they considered a number of factors when choosing finalists, including creativity, uniqueness, submission frequency, Minnesota-specific ideas, and names that would be easily identifiable and understandable to a general audience.
Most of the finalists are new name ideas, according to MnDOT, but some of the 2021 runners-up made it to the list.
Voting is open through January 26 at mndot.gov/nameasnowplow. Participants can vote once and choose up to eight names.
The name of the eight winners and the area of the state where they will be located will be announced in early February.
The name with the most votes last year was Plowy McPlowFace, who won the contest with 65,292 votes. Other winners were: Ope, Just Gonna Plow Right Past Ya, Duck Duck Orange Truck, Plow Bunyan, Darth Blader, Snowbi Wan Kenobi, F. Salt Fitzgerald and The Truck formerly known as Plough.
