Luis Arce confirms nuclear medicine and research projects in La Pazu

Bolivia’s President Luis Arce this Friday confirmed drug and nuclear technology research projects for peaceful purposes being developed in La Paz during a commemoration of 213 years of liberal work in that Bolivian city, the seat of government. Parliament.

Arce mentioned the matter at an honorary session of the Departmental Legislative Assembly of La Paz, held at the Government House, in which he reviewed the achievements of his administration and made some announcements of projects for the Department of La Paz.

“Continuing our progress towards the use of nuclear technology in the fight against cancer, we will continue with the construction of a second nuclear medicine medical center in the city of La Paz, which will be referenced nationally and internationally,” the ruler announced.

This Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy Center is being built in the residential neighborhood of Achumani, south of La Paz, and is 53.3% complete, according to information released by the Bolivian Nuclear Energy Agency (ABEN) in late June.

The project has an investment of about $50 million and will cover the areas of nuclear medicine, radiotherapy, brachytherapy and clinical oncology, according to the same source.

A similar center began operating in the neighboring city of El Alto last March and another will open next September in the eastern region of Santa Cruz, according to ABN.

Ars also noted that a “Nuclear Technology Research and Development Center for Peaceful Purposes” is under construction, which will include a preclinical cyclotron-radiopharmy complex, a multi-purpose radiation center, a nuclear research reactor complex, and a training center.

With these components, the center will allow for “the development of agricultural, industrial, mining, water sectors, as well as scientific knowledge” for the benefit of the Bolivian population, the official said.

The equivalent of approximately $351.5 million has been invested in the project, which is being built in El Alto, and executed through an agreement signed in 2017 between the governments of Bolivia and Russia.

The Bolivian President also announced the expansion of a dairy plant in the Altiplano and another citrus plant in the city of Caraavi, in addition to projects to create industries for Andean grain derivatives, potato processors, grain storage silos, among others.

He also pledged $1.7 million to restore heritage buildings in La Paz and a $20 million investment to create a “Metropolitan Linear Park” with walkways and cycle paths in the city.

The mayor of La Paz, the opposition Ivan Arias, expressed his desire to the media that the national executive call him to coordinate this work.

Arce did not participate in the honorary session of the city council of La Paz because the departmental legislative session was scheduled at the same time, which has the majority of the Governmental Movement for Socialism (MAS).

La Paz celebrates this Saturday the 213th anniversary of its revolution against the Spanish colony with parades and events that last throughout the week and will continue throughout the weekend.
