it’s official. The macho, fast, balloon-biting Russell Terrier is a world record holder.
Macho became the fastest dog ever to run a base at Major League Baseball Stadium, scooting around the basepath in a time of 21.06 seconds at Dodger Stadium on Friday, September 24.
The little speedster from Malibu was timed by a Guinness World Records judge, who flew from New York to Los Angeles to record the historic canine event.
“I didn’t sleep at all, panicked,” said Macho owner and trainer Lori Signes. “Never mind, he is still a dog. There could be a stray pigeon, a gopher or a leaf fall. We were all just holding our breath.”
After spending a year and a half teaching the four-legged wonder the finer points of baserunning, it all came down to a lap around the bases at Dodger Blue’s iconic home.
Macho, sponsored by the Thousand Oaks-based Lucy Pet Foundation and Lucy Pet Foods, was ready for its little trip.
Small balloons were placed on bases to prompt the pooch to touch each base as he was scooting around—a requirement for a Guinness World Record.
Why Balloons? He loves them, or hates them; Its owner is not sure. But he definitely makes them pop. with enthusiasm.
As he completed his record-setting run his four-clawed student sighed with pride.
“He was perfect,” she said. “He hit a Grand Slam home run. It was amazing. I’m so proud of you.”
Macho had to beat the time of 24 seconds to set the record. There is no problem.
“He smoked it,” Signs said. “I started crying when he crossed the house plate. All my feelings came out.”
Later, after a well-deserved rest, Macho dines on a plate of prime rib at home. Perhaps more delicious than balloons, although no less attractive.
