You know him by his works. It is impossible to be in front of the interior design by the designer Luis Puerta, without immediately recognizing his personal seal. It is a perfect balance between the updated classic style and the clean, calm and simple spaces. With such magnificent ingredients, he gave life to one of his last projects, a grand one in Madrid, which has a double decorative incentive: it is located in a building built by the architect Luis Gutiérrez Soto in the 1960s. He cannot ask. The beginning of the thing was a very compartmentalized space, but with the potential of infinite light – that was all exterior, was the trump card that was won by the current owners. “The house needed a complete reformation. The modifications were made without much sense and with very few materials. For this reason, and although I really like to preserve the original elements, it is not possible,” explains Luis Puerta. Unnecessary subdivisions below and outside the corridor and the effect of wide and interconnected spaces for comfortable family life.

The decoration fulfills more than a double purpose, which is not always easy to achieve when the dimensions are large – we are talking about 400 m2. On the one hand, it allows fluid circulation. On the other hand, it provides comfort, a cozy feeling and the warmth necessary in a residential space. The use of natural tones, toasted stones and luminous whites, neutral lines, nothing but boring, careful selection of furniture, the interposition of delicate textures, the subtlety of borders and textures. and very personal.

“We put emphasis on well-finished and well-maintained homes and avoid trends,” says the interior designer. This feeling is enhanced by the use of the same floor area in all the rooms made of large natural oak trees, from Savia Wood Design, stained glass and Thassos marble in wet areas and lacquered walls. The lighting also has a lot to say: the perimeter, with spots without recessed panels, supported by floor lamps and slanted lighting. There was no luminaire in the ceiling that was getting the marks. Unity is sought. The presence of (very) interesting works of art – another constant in Puerta’s interiors – adds charisma, with guests such as Picasso and Tapies and other more current talents such as Carlos Albert, Max Cobalto or Aythamy Armas. The rest is for me to enjoy.
