Man pleads for 2015 murder of Bay Area high school student

A 25-year-old Vallejo man pleaded in Solano County Superior Court on Friday a no contest to the shooting of a Vallejo High School student more than six years ago.

As part of a plea deal with the Solano County District Attorney’s Office, Zachary Allen Kroll, who appeared in Department 15 for the trial setting during the morning session, appeared in the courtroom of Judge Robert Bowers on March 11 at the sentencing of the state. will serve a sentence of 21 years in prison. Justice Center in Fairfield.

Deputy District Attorney Melanie Collins prosecuted the case, and Fairfield criminal defense attorney Vincent R. Maher represented Kroll.

On May 14, 2015, Kroll shot and killed 17-year-old Kenneth Maxwell “Max” Rusk of Vallejo, a Jesse Bethel High student, on a trail near the Ascot Parkway campus.

Elisha Marcel White Jr., 16, was also initially accused in the case at the time of the shooting. He was charged as an adult, but the case against him was dismissed on November 1, 2017, court records indicate.

Also accused at the time was Austin Leandro Lonzanida, accused of a robbery with Kroll. The robbery, also in high school, took place a few days before the murder. Court records indicate that probation for Lonzanida was reinstated early last year.

Kroll and White were arrested by Vallejo police the day after the shooting.

Although police said Rusk and Kroll knew each other, Rusk’s mother and girlfriend said they did not recognize the suspects.
