AUSTIN, Texas ( Associated Press) — The late Manning quarterback, considered the best prospect of next year’s class, has made a verbal commitment to play for Southeast Conference college.
Arch Manning posted on Twitter on Thursday that he wants to play for Texas.
The quarterback’s message includes a photo showing him wearing a longhorn jersey before throwing a pass.
Manning would begin his senior year of high school at Isidore Newman, a New Orleans private school where his uncles, Super Bowl MVP Peyton and Ally, also played. Ark’s father, Cooper, is Peyton and Allie’s older brother.
Peyton Manning played at the collegiate level with Tennessee. Eli followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather Archie, playing for Ole Miss.
Texas currently plays in the Big 12 Conference, but will switch to the Southeastern after the 2025 season.
Coach Steve Sarkeesian will begin his second season with the Longhorns, who lead 5-7 last year. Judson Card and Quinn Ivers will fight to be the starting quarterback.
The card debuted at the beginning of the previous season before being replaced by Casey Thompson after only two games. Thompson left the team for Nebraska.
Evers was a five-star recruit at a Dallas-area high school who had barely played in one of his seasons with Ohio State before returning home and joining the Longhorns for spring training. He was the top quarterback prospect among 2021 graduates, though he skipped his senior year of high school.
