John F. Kennedy was the reason Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Kennedy became rivals because, while he was married to Jackie, he had an affair with Monroe, the Hollywood diva every man dreams of.
Though much has been focused on the details of Marilyn and JFK’s romance, Jackie’s feelings have taken a back seat. How did she feel, and what did she think of the woman with whom she shared her husband?
When Jackie married John F. Kennedy, she knew her husband would not be a one-woman man and that she would have to endure his numerous infidelities, as she already knew he had a thing for beautiful women.
“Such agony would be worth it,” say historians, which is what Jackie expressed before walking down the aisle. Journalist Christopher Andersen assures that Jackie turned a blind eye and ignored all her husband’s romances as long as he did not make them public. However, the romance JFK had with Marilyn Monroe hurt him a lot.
“Especially because Marilyn was a time bomb that could go off at any moment and cause a scandal that would destroy her husband’s reputation, ruin her marriage, and expose her to public ridicule,” explains Anderson.
Andersen also assures us that Marilyn dared to call Jackie on the phone, and in that call, the actress told the first lady that Kennedy had told her he was filing for divorce in order to marry her. Jackie’s response was blunt and ladylike:
“Marilyn, you’re marrying John; that’s great. And you will move into the White House and assume all the duties of a First Lady. I will leave here, and you will be left with all the problems.”
Various outlets claimed at the time that the actress even dared to threaten to reveal details of her relationship with the President and his brother, Bobby Kennedy, to the press.
