Maryland Mayor Arrested on 50 Counts for Spreading Revenge Porn on Reddit

The Maryland mayor has been arrested and charged with 50 counts of distributing revenge pornography, Maryland Attorney Charlton T. Howard III said Monday.

Charges were brought against Cambridge Mayor Andrew Bradshaw in Dorchester County District Court, according to a statement from Howard’s office.

According to court documents, Bradshaw allegedly created several accounts on the public Internet forum Reddit, using variations of the name and birthday of the victim with whom he had a previous romantic relationship.

The mayor is accused of posting nude photos of the victim on various Reddit and subreddit forums related to sexual activity, humiliation, humiliation, race and other topics, along with racial slurs and overtly sexual statements without her consent or knowledge and with the intent to harm her.

According to court documents, the victim, who turned 20, contacted law enforcement around May 14, 2020 when she discovered that her nude photos had been posted on Reddit without her consent.

The victim told the police that she shared the photos in question with only one person, Bradshaw, when they were in an intimate relationship, but did not give him consent to share them.

His alleged actions are in violation of Maryland’s revenge pornography law, the state prosecutor said.

Under the Maryland Revenge Pornography Act, an individual may not distribute private images, videos, or any reproduction of another person’s image that reveals their identity, exposing their private parts, or demonstrating their involvement in sexual activity, without their consent and with the intent to harm them. harm.

If convicted, Bradshaw faces a maximum sentence of two years in prison and a $ 5,000 fine on each count.

“Using someone’s personal images without their consent is a serious violation of trust and an invasion of privacy, and the power and breadth of the Internet makes such a violation even more egregious,” said State Attorney Howard. “Our office is committed to protecting victims from those who abuse their power and trust.”

In a statement posted on the Cambridge website, the city officials said they were “aware of the mayor’s case,” but that “the city’s business was not affected.”

“The City is currently collecting information and will fully cooperate with the Maryland State Police and the State Attorney’s Office,” the statement said. “Since this is an active legal issue, no further comments will be made at this time.”
