Maxwell Frost: First United States Congressman of Generation Z and Black of Cuban descent

(CNN) — Democrat Maxwell Alejandro Frost, a 25-year-old community organizer, will win Florida’s 10th congressional district, the CNN project, as the first Generation Z member elected to Congress.

He is also the first black of Cuban origin elected to Congress.

Frost would defeat Republican Calvin Wimbish in the race for the Orlando-area seat to replace Democratic Representative Val Demings, who had vacated the seat to run for Senate.

Generation Z members—those born after 1996—are eligible to be elected to the US House of Representatives for the first time on these ballots. (House members must be at least 25 years old.)

Frost has relied on his youth throughout his campaign and has generated buzz through social media and public interviews.

Frost was supported by notable progressives such as Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, as well as the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC, en route to winning a crowded August primary that included a senator from the state and two former members of Congress. were involved. He was heavily favored in the general election in the dark blue seat that now President Joe Biden would have won in 2020 by 32 points.
