As Thomas Markle reportedly recovers from a stroke at a San Diego-area hospital, it is unlikely that his famous daughter, Meghan Markle, will make the four-hour trip from Montecito, a royal expert says.
“Meghan has not released a statement and I doubt she intends to go there. That bridge has been burned down,” Duncan Larcombe, a royal writer and former royal editor for UK tabloid The Sun, told the Daily Beast. Said in an interview.
Another royal expert, society writer and YouTuber Lady Colin Campbell, more scathingly told the Daily Beast that the Duchess of Sussex could at least feel pressured to show that she was worried about her 77-year-old father.
Campbell also suggested that Netflix, which is reportedly filming an “at-home” “documentary” about Meghan and Prince Harry’s life in California, as part of its $100 million deal with the couple , one might expect the Duchess to shoot a dramatic scene. Father in the hospital, Campbell said.
“If she’s smart, she’ll find a way to meet and reconcile,” Campbell said. “Let’s see if Netflix is up to it. They probably can. Where decency failed, the dirty bucks could work.”
The Daily Beast reported that Larcombe and Campbell’s comments underscore the heated debate between Meghan’s fans and critics, which has begun in the wake of Thomas Markle’s latest health crisis. According to GB News presenter Dan Wooten, news broke on Tuesday that he had suffered a stroke, lost his ability to speak and was receiving emergency care at Chula Vista Hospital.
The retired Hollywood lighting designer, who has emerged as one of Meghan’s highest-profile critics since her marriage to Prince Harry, apparently suffered a stroke in the Mexican city of Rosarito, where she lives. TMZ said he couldn’t speak to paramedics and needed to write his symptoms down on a piece of paper. An ambulance took her to a hospital north of the US border in Chula Vista.

Thomas Markle was due to visit the UK next week to enjoy Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. He was to be brought in by some of Meghan’s well-known media opponents, including Campbell and Wooten, who was one of the first journalists to report on her father’s stroke.
Wooten tweeted: “I am devastated to report this news, of his desire to visit Windsor just seven days before Thomas joins London to celebrate the Queen’s birth anniversary for a TV special on my GB News show. was completing.” “In a cruel twist of fate, he would no longer be able to travel.”
If Thomas Markle had traveled to the UK, he could have been in London at the same time as Meghan and Harry. The Sussexes are also planning to travel to the UK next week to attend some celebrations and perhaps attempt to mend their conflicts with Harry’s family.
Meghan’s fans and critics are debating whether she should forgive her father and reconcile him. Meghan and her father were reportedly once close, as he helped raise her in Los Angeles after her divorce from her mother, Doria Ragland, and is said to have paid for her education at private schools and Northwestern University.
The Duchess and her father had a dramatic feud in the days leading up to their May 2018 royal wedding. A report revealed that he collaborated with a paparazzo in staging photos of her as he prepared to travel to the UK to walk her down the aisle. Following the report Thomas Markle suffered a heart attack and missed the wedding.
Thomas Markle admitted that he accepted money for the photographs but argued that he did so in a naive attempt to improve his image, and after being spoiled by paparazzi pressure to be surveyed.
Meghan’s successful attack in a UK court case against the Daily Mail revealed that she and Harry had sent her reconciliation texts after news of the photos broke. However, Thomas Markle claimed in a 2020 interview that Harry called her to his hospital bed and yelled at her to talk to a reporter. She claimed that Prince Harry told her: “If you had listened to me, this would not have happened to you.”
Thomas Markle said it was his last contact with either Harry or Meghan. He then began giving interviews to the media, during which he frequently criticized the couple.
Larcombe told the Daily Beast that it was hard to imagine Meghan running to see her father in hospital right now. “If you look at what they did before the wedding, it’s hardly surprising. They claimed it was gullibility, but it was clearly imitation,” Larcombe said.
One of Meghan’s many online supporters agreed that Thomas Markle cheated on her daughter. Fans also expected Meghan to be blamed for her health problems.
I’m only going to say that if Thomas Markle hadn’t sold the stories and photos about Meghan Markle to British tabloids, he would still have a relationship with her today. I’m sad that one way or another, her poor health—like everything else—will be blamed on Meg.

Indeed, Meghan’s half-sister Samantha Markle, another critic of her, has already accused the Duchess and her staunchly loyal social media fans of causing her father’s latest health crisis.
Samantha Markle told Wooten: “It’s ironic how much she’s been abused and endured over the years because of my sister’s neglect. It’s unforgivable.”
According to Wooten, Meghan’s critics also raised the issue of Thomas Markle’s medical bill, which could be widespread. On Wednesday, Wooten tweeted: “Fury in the Markle family that Thomas has been left to seek medical treatment of his own, the Sussexes have not provided any financial support since their public fall.”
Wooten said Meghan was the only one of Thomas Markle’s three children who did not investigate her condition. “Meghan, life is too short to treat my blood relatives with such cruelty,” Wooten said.
