LOS ANGELES, September 17 (WNN) — Melanie Lynskey and Justin Long said that Lynskey’s character in the film lady of the manor, on Friday, resemble characters played by Bill Murray and Seth Rogen in the movies. Lynskey plays a stonemason and heavy drinker who meets a ghost at his new job.
“Melanie Lynskey plays the classic ’80s Bill Murray, the kind of antihero his life together isn’t, smokes weed and has sex,” Long told WNN in a Zoom interview. “Actually, what we wanted to do was a classic odd couple comedy. It just so happens to involve a ghost.”
Long, 43, co-wrote lady of the manor With his younger brother Christian, 40. Justin Long also directed the film and played Max, a love interest for Hannah (Linsky).
Hannah gets a job at Wadsworth Manor, painting Lady Wadsworth for tourists. Hannah doesn’t do her homework, and the ghost of Lady Wadsworth (Judy Greer) appears enraged at her inaccuracies.
“I also thought he was someone who would play Seth Rogen,” Lynskey said. “I think it’s hard for guys to see women relax and do nothing.”
Lynskey, 44, reappears on CBS sitcom two and a Half Men. However, Linsky said that she often turns down the comedies that are offered to her.
“I have a hard time laughing,” she said.
Lynskey said Hannah’s stoned, sullen attitude sold her Manor woman.
The character learns that the owners of Wadsworth Manor have stolen property from Lady Wadsworth, but she is too lazy to solve the mystery.
“She was so lazy, and that was the funniest thing for me,” Lynskey said. “She will always default to complaining and drinking.”
Lynskey Said Humor lady of the manor Took him out of his comfort zone. Comedy has fart jokes, which Lynskey said is not his specialty.
“It’s not something that I find funny, but other people find it funny, and I was like, ‘Okay, I trust you,'” Lynskey said. “It’s not my comfort zone, so farting, burping, any of that stuff, I had to give a lot of instructions.”
Long said one of the fart jokes in the film was inspired by a neighbor he and Christian were growing up with. The neighbor came over for dinner and gave himself an excuse to go to another room.
The boys realized that he had given himself an excuse to fart. So he wrote a scene in which the woman teaches Hannah to fart in another room. However, Hannah is caught anyway.
“Everyone farts,” Long said. “It’s a reality of the world. Everyone farts, so there’s a manners around him.”
Long also said that Lynskey and Greer questioned whether they felt the scripted scene was not working. Justin said that he and Christian would write a better joke on the spot, and Lynskey confirmed that she was specific about comedy.
“I’ll tell something if it doesn’t work or if there’s a repetitive word, the word used twice in the same sentence,” Lynskey said. “I’m a little stickler for that stuff.”
Max, a professor, eventually helps Hannah solve the mystery of Wadsworth Manor over library research. Justin said he and Christian are Max based on his father, Fairfield University Emeritus Philosophy Professor R. James Long.
“Our dad is an academic,” Long said. “He’s very practical. He has that kind of mind.”
Lynskey said that she and Long are related to each other, having both grown up as actors. Long’s first film role was in 1999 Galaxy Quest When he was 21 years old.
Lynskey debuted in 1994 heavenly beings When she was 15 years old. Looking back, she said she was worried she would never work again, because four years earlier she had played an evil half-sister in the Cinderella drama Since then.
“It took a long time for me to build my career and build my confidence, and realize that I deserve it.” It was four years, which is enough time to be like, ‘Okay, this is never going to happen again,'” she said.
Both Linsky and Long worked tirelessly. Both said that they have never had to take gigs, like Hannah, while performing for tourists.
“I’m fascinated by those places,” Long said. “I haven’t, but I like going to them. I love ghost tours.”
Lynskey stated that she had been an audience member for the tours, during which Guide performed the character. As a fellow actor, Linsky said, she encourages those actors.
“It’s very hard to commit to a character when the people around you are bored or disdainful,” Lynskey said. “Half the people were dragged there by a family member.”
