Metro tickets will increase from 67 to 74 pesos, 10.4 percent, this Monday. This is the third increase so far this year, a period in which it accumulated a growth of 76.2 per cent. In turn, a fourth increase is scheduled for September 3 which will raise the price of the pass to 80 pesos.
The revision of the tariff chart was approved in a public hearing on 3 February and the first adjustment was implemented from 7 March when tickets increased from 42 to 58 pesos and premetro from 15 to 20 pesos. Then, the prices went up again in May to 67 pesos for metro and 24 pesos for premetro and now in June they go up to 74 and 26 pesos respectively.
“The update will make it possible to reduce subsidies, which are currently much higher than the historical average (86 versus 60 percent),” SBase said in a statement issued at the end of February.
Discount
In the case of subways, the SUBE network’s discounts and benefits for frequent travelers will remain valid, with discounts of 20, 30 and 40 percent automatically applied when they exceed 20, 30 or 40 monthly trips, respectively.
In addition, retirees and pensioners, people with disabilities, transplant recipients and those on the waiting list still have – they can all travel for free – the student ticket – which is free – and the social, teacher and student membership, secondary and for students in tertiary schools.
Social payments intended for beneficiaries of social schemes administered by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires of the Ciudadânia Porteña program; Beneficiaries of the male and female heads of household scheme and people in a situation of chronic or recurrent unemployment. Also for those who prove that their family income is less than the basic family basket published by INDEC; persons who prove that they are in a state of indigence; Beneficiaries of subsidies for the Cromañón tragedy; Ex-combatants of Malvinas and those groups identified by the current city regulations with special needs or in a situation of high social vulnerability.
