Mexican Episcopate prays that Mexico does not experience dictatorships like Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua

The Secretary General of the Mexican Episcopate, Ramon Castro Castro, called on Catholic priests to pray so that Mexico does not face a dictatorial scenario.

“In Latin America it is not the best moment in terms of democracy, clear examples are Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua where there is a dictatorial regime.”

He said this during a Sunday sermon as part of a prayer for democracy to be held every third Sunday following the killing of Jesuit priests in the state of Chihuahua in June 2022.

“Why are we praying for democracy? Because this is not the best moment for democracy in Latin America. Look at all the years of a dictatorial regime in Cuba, Venezuela and now Nicaragua.”

He also said that he was a personal witness to the change of government in Venezuela.

“I worked for the Diplomatic Service and in the beginning I saw Mr. Chávez’s good intentions, but power and money completely ruined it.”

The Bishop of Cuernavaca also expressed his sorrow that the arrival of the Left had become a punishment for those most in need.

“What seemed extraordinary, now the people are hungry and there is no democracy.”

The Secretary General of the Mexican Episcopate expressed the Church’s concern that a similar scenario be repeated in Mexico.

“And that’s what worries us, we’re concerned that this could have a reflection in Mexico.”

In this context, he called on the parishioners to pray that the rulers would promote democracy and peace.

“That is why we pray to the Lord that we may persevere with all our souls in peace, in justice and truth and in that democratic system so wounded that it helps us all to escape the suffering that Latin America is going through. Used to be.” That brother nation”.

He also assured that apart from prayer, Mexico would not fall into a dictatorship.

“So, to ask God a lot so that we live in the democracy that is so needed and we (in Mexico) are not going to fall into any kind of regime, dictatorial regime. He then encouraged that God help us” .
