After a few years of virtual meetings due to confinement by Covid-19, private sector executives and representatives from Mexico and Canada held face-to-face meetings of the Alianza Mexico Agribusiness Working Group on April 27 and 28 in Ottawa. Canada and the Consultative Committee on Agriculture (CCA), reported to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The first is a quadrilateral forum between the government and the industry of the two countries, in the case of Mexico it is co-chaired by the Secretariat and the General Coordination of Agriculture of the National Council of Agriculture (CNA), and in the case of Canada, the Vice Ministry of Agriculture and the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, while the CCA is a high-level government dialogue mechanism.
The federal agency said both mechanisms aim to address relevant issues and issues of mutual interest to enhance productivity in a sustainable manner, as well as strengthen the resilience of our food systems and promote social inclusion in them.
Similarly, and as part of the commitments of the 2022 meetings, as well as the agreement of the X Summit of North American Leaders, held on January 10, 2023 in Mexico City, a framework for the exchange of experiences and products between the groups Forum builders of indigenous peoples of Mexico and First Nations of Canada.
It aims to create spaces that promote equality and social justice as well as techno-commercial cooperation that contributes to generating the necessary conditions of equity for the sustainable regional development of our vulnerable populations.
This work mission was accompanied by a Mexican delegation composed of coffee, honey and cacao producers from the Tzeltl-Tzotzil people; coffee from the Mamaes and Mocayas communities of Chiapas; of cocoa from the city of Nakajuca in Tabasco, and on behalf of the mezcal product system, producers from the cities of San Baltazar Guellavilla and San Dionisio Ocotepec in Oaxaca held a business meeting to improve their market conditions for their high quality. Products with cultural and environmental qualities of intrinsic and high value.
