In the United States of America. – The excellent performance of the Mexican National Team in the World Baseball Classic continues to leave great achievements for the national game, managing to place Mexico in third place in the men’s ranking.
Mexico reached the best position in this classification, after a historic tournament in which it reached the Semifinals, and remained three expectations from progressing to the final against the United States for the first time.
According to the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), the third and fourth place Classic awarded a minimum of 242 points for participation.
This standard made the National Team to 4,130 units, which allowed it to go up two units to be placed above the powers of Chinese Taipei, South Korea and Venezuela.
The two first places in the ranking are occupied by Japan, the undefeated champion of the 2023 tournament and who is also the highest winner of the Classic, with three titles since its creation, and the United States, second in the competition.
In the World Cup, Mexico’s locals and foreigners finished the group stage leading the United States of America, Great Britain and Canada, with a solid ninth and united group.
For the Quarterfinals, the ‘king of three players’ eliminated Puerto Rico to complete a historic passage to the Semifinals, where they ran into their worst rival, Japan’s tireless Shohei Ohtani.
The Japanese team overcame an initial 3-0 deficit (to tie it 3-3), but the Aztecs pulled their hearts out to take the lead again 5-4 in the ninth inning, where they were almost at the end.
However, two hits by the Japanese broke the Mexican illusion, in what was considered the best game in the history of the World Baseball Classic.
