Mexico registered 17,938 cases and 118 deaths from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours

The Health Secretary reported on Monday that Mexico adds 4 million 685 thousand 767 cases and 303 thousand 301 deaths from COVID-19.

In the past week, Mexico reported its highest numbers of infections, with a historical record of 60,552 on Wednesday and 51,368 on Saturday, in addition to daily deaths above 300.

Regarding the figures of this day, it must be taken into account that the reports of Sunday and Monday the figures go down due to the processing of information from the weekend.

With these figures, Mexico It is the fourteenth country in the world in number of confirmed infections and it is the fifth with the most deaths from this cause, behind U.S, Brazil, India Y Russia, according to the count of the Universidad Johns Hopkins.

The health authorities recognize that, based on death certificates, the country may be close to 455,000 deaths and they estimate that Mexico actually accumulates 4,934,517 infections.

Of the confirmed infections, there are 294 thousand 29 active cases, which have presented symptoms during the last 14 days and account for 5.9% of the total.

In addition, since the start of the pandemic, 3 million 761 thousand 113 people have recovered.

The average occupancy of general beds in mexican hospitals stands at 43% and intensive care at 25%.

Unlike other countries, Mexico spent Christmas holidays without restrictions due to the pandemic. And despite the rise in infections, the government Mexico has defended its management of the health crisis.

Regarding deaths, Mexico City, the focus of the pandemic, accumulates about 18% of all deaths nationwide.

This Monday, the National Institute of Statistic and Geography (inegi) released a report in which it noted that COVID-19 was the main cause of death in Mexico in the first half of 2021, accumulating 145,159 deaths.

Starting this Monday and until February 6, 12 of the 32 states in the country will be at a green epidemiological risk traffic light (low risk of contagion), 10 will be yellow (medium risk), including Mexico City; nine in orange (high risk) and one in red, Aguascalientes, for maximum risk.

Vaccination plan against COVID-19 in Mexico

The authorities also indicated that within the vaccination program 160.82 million doses have been administered, adding 240 thousand 832 during the last day.

Of the 126 million inhabitants, 83.33 million in the country have received at least one dose of the vaccine, with which 89% of the population aged 18 and over have received at least one dose.

Since the end of December 2020, almost 201.3 million doses of vaccines from the United States have arrived in Mexico Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson Y Modern, the British AstraZeneca, the Russian Sputnik V and the Chinese CanSino Y Sinovac.
