Military groups operating from Spain, the US and other African countries

The United States Special Operations Command Africa (SOCAFRICA) organized the multinational exercise Flintlock, which has been running since 2005.

This year’s exercise was held in Ivory Coast and Ghana and brought together elite military groups from the United States of America, Canada and several European and African countries, including Spain. This exercise is important to strengthen relations with the military forces of the Sahel, especially at a time when Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Group and large jihadist groups are trying to generate instability in the area.

In this exercise, as reported by the Defense Staff, 29 Spanish soldiers and civil guards participated in this exercise, namely personnel from the Command of the Special Article (MCOE), the Army of the Special Operations (MOE), the Special Naval Warfare (FGNE) of the Navy. The Parachute Sapper Squads (EZAPAC) of the Air Force and the Rapid Action Group (GAR) of the Civil Guard, as well as the Maritime Action Ship (BAM) of the “Audaz” army.
