minicoder or how to bring kids closer to the metaverse

Minicoders

Minicoders, an edtech startup co-founded by venture maker Nucleo, was born as the first educational platform to teach children the fundamentals of computer programming through game experiences set in the metaverse, using a Play-to-learn model (play to learning). After launching its product in the Anglo-Saxon and Latin American markets, Minicoders now offers its games and educational materials in Spain, where computer programming is one of the most sought-after professions.

The company has raised 350,000 euros in its first round of financing, a pre-seed round in which various business angels and investment funds such as Casti Ventures have participated.

Minicoders aims to promote computer programming learning in children ages 6 to 12, as well as turning screen time into productive and enjoyable hours. According to company data, school-age children spend 2 to 3 hours a day using screens and devices with internet connections in their spare time. Too, 68% of parents are concerned about the number of hours their kids spend on these devices,

In this scenario, Minicoders provides:

  1. Minicoders KidsAn app with educational content like videos and virtual assistants to guide children in their learning
  2. gaming experience Where children can put into practice the concepts learned apart from having fun.

Ruben Aparicio, co-founder of Minicoders, explains, “The use of regulated metaverses like Roblox combined with technologies such as virtual assistants and streaming video apps allows us to provide children with a more complete and effective learning experience than ever before. ” ,This learning begins with the introduction of concepts, the resolution of doubts and the application of the knowledge gained through play.Always under parental supervision.

At the beginning of last July, Minicoders launches Magic School in Anglo-Saxon and Latin American marketsTheir first game experience built on the Roblox metaverse, which saw over 50,000 unique users in the first three months of launch.

In Magic School, players step into the shoes of a trainee magician to explore a metaverse with experiences. In order to use all the magical powers and enjoy the game, players have to solve challenges in the form of computer programming blocks with which they acquire the fundamentals of the subject. Parents can follow the progress of their children, thanks to the parental controls and security offered by the platform.

Minicoders is also committed to inclusive education. ,Our Metaverse-based gaming experiences are genderless as they are designed to appeal equally to all genders, In addition, we believe that the metaverse brings an important associative component to learning”, says Aparicio.
