The Brazilian beauty queen has died at the age of 27 after suffering a brain hemorrhage and a heart attack after elective surgery to remove her tonsils.
Glacey Correia, who was crowned Miss Content United Brazil in 2018, died on Monday at a hospital in Macae, in the country’s southeast, more than two months after a simple procedure. Now her body has been sent to the local forensic examination for an autopsy.
“She had surgery to remove her tonsils. [in late March] and after five days at home, she began to bleed,” Correia’s family chaplain Lydian Alves Oliveira told The Mirror. “She went to Unimed [a local hospital] On April 4, I went into cardiac arrest.”
“Since then, she has been in a coma, with no neurological activity, and today she passed away,” the priest said with a heartbreaking statement.

Meanwhile, another religious figure and family friend, Pastor Yak Abreu, expressed his condolences on social media.
Abreu said the beauty queen’s parents believe there was a medical error during a routine tonsil removal operation.
“God chose this day to take our princess,” he wrote. “We know she will be greatly missed, but now she will light up the sky with her smile.”

Correia boasts over 52,000 Instagram followers and her account was taken over by her family after she slipped into a coma.
The brunette beauty was born into poverty in Brazil and used her social media accounts to talk about her humble beginnings, reports The Sun.
“I really was not born in a golden cradle, I am from a very humble family, but I am so proud of it, very proud,” she wrote under one of the posts.

Correia first started working at the age of 8, taking a job as a manicurist at a nearby beauty salon.
As a teenager, she began competing in local beauty pageants before being crowned Miss Content United Brazil at the age of 23.
After winning the competition, the brunette worked as a model and cosmetologist specializing in permanent makeup. She has posted most of her work on her Instagram page.

Autopsy results are pending. It’s unclear if Correia’s family plans to sue the surgeon who performed the operation to remove the tonsils.
Correia will be buried at the service on Tuesday.
