Miui XIAOMI themes is banned from Playstore, temporarily

It was identified by Play Protect that the application was trying to circumvent the Android security system

Xiaomi users are reporting a major issue for the MIUI Themes App, which (for a few hours) has been banned from the Play Store. As you well know, Xiaomi is full of proprietary apps designed to expand the daily experience of smartphones: one of them is Themes, useful for graphically customizing the interface. One of the main advantages of the MIUI themes app is the huge Themes database that users can use, not to mention the possibility to install themes from multiple developers.

It’s not the first time for Xiaomi that the Themes app is blocked: maybe some will remember that the app was banned in 2018 and we had to wait in 2020 for its restoration. This time, the ban comes directly from the Google Play Store: a few hours ago, some users report that the Play Protect security check returns the message “Your device is at risk.” According to Google’s Safeguard platform, Xiaomi’s Themes app would try to bypass Android’s security protection.

At the same time, for some users the problem does not arise: even performing a manual scan via Play Protect, the Temi app pre-installed on MIUI is revealed to be dangerous. It could be that it’s just a false positive and that the Xiaomi app is anomalously detected as harmful, but it’s still too early to say for sure.
