More than 200 million people across the United States are subject to winter weather alerts this Friday. The US Weather Service has warned of the potential for a “once in a generation” extreme cold weather event ahead of the Christmas holiday weekend. More than 12 inches of snow has fallen in some areas of the Midwestern United States, and millions of people are subject to “life-threatening” blizzard and wind chill warnings. In addition, hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses have been left without power. So far, more than 5,600 flights have been canceled and nearly 10,000 have been delayed due to the storm.
