More than 6,000 students participated in the III Cybersecurity at School Contest

The third edition of the “Cybersecurity at School Contest!” achieved record participation with over 6,000 students from 120 registered schools. The competition is one of the activities of the CIBER. Gal Meeting recently held the online semifinal, where the six centers that will participate in the face-to-face final are classified as finalists, which will be held on November 3 in the Cidade da Culture and will be presented by Galician communicator Esther Estévez.

The finalist centers in the primary category are the CEP Carlos Casares – Alxén, the CPR Plurilingüe San Fermín and the CPR San Francisco de V,ilagarcía de Arousa. In the secondary category, Colegio Montespiño, IES de Foz, and CPR Plurilingüe Losada are classified. In addition, the end is open to participants and finalists who wish to attend the request by email at dg2030.cibersegurae@xunta.gal.

The competition, sponsored by Telefónica within the framework of the III CIBER.*gal Meeting, is aimed at students aged 10 to 14 to raise awareness about the risks they face when using digital technologies and teaching them good practices.

After the finale, the audience can attend the game “Amanda_T”, which will discuss the bad practices of social networks and the real consequences they can have. Next, an event organized by INCIBE will take place: “Level up in cybersecurity!”, where simple guidelines on cybersecurity in the daily use of devices and online platforms will be shown. All personal attendees will be able to participate in this event live because it will try to involve the entire audience that is there.

In addition to the above, the CIBER.gal Meeting will offer other complementary activities such as the “Capture the Flag” competition – which will take place in the afternoon of November 2, with raffles for participants and prizes for classifieds – and four practical workshops of special interest for technology profiles: “Installation and configuration of Snort on raspberry pi for intrusion detection in industrial networks”, “Adding privileges and maintaining systems on Linux”, “Automating attacks and mimicking adversaries with MITER Caldera “and Obtaining” evidence for computer forensic analysis.” Additional activities have limited places, between 24 and 30 participants maximum.

The third edition of CIBER.gal will be held on November 2 and 3 and will feature the participation of leading experts in the field of cybersecurity such as hacker Chema Alonso; the head of Cybersecurity and DPO of Renfe, Francisco Lázaro; the CISO of Iberia, Jesús Mérida; Microsoft Security Account Executive, Pablo Chapinal; and the director of the Office of the CISO at Google, Jorge Blanco. Various officials from public entities will also participate, such as Javier Candau, head of the Cybersecurity Department of the National Cryptological Center, and Javier Diéguez, director of Cyberzaintza (the new Basque Cybersecurity Agency). In addition, from a more social perspective and a Galician communicator, Esther Estévez, known for her work at the head of the informative space “Dígocho Eu”, will talk about the risks of cyber threats in social networks.

The CIBER.gal meeting, organized by the Ciber. gal Node has consolidated itself as a reference event in the field of cybersecurity due to its vocation to reach all types of audiences as it is aimed at professionals and sector experts as well as society: families, the education sector, minors, the elderly, and professionals from all sectors.
