Motorway of the sea between Vigo and the United Kingdom is planned to start in September

Motorway of the sea for the auto region between Vigo and the port of Ellesmore, in the vicinity of Liverpool, will begin in September, according to an announcement by the shipping company Suardiaz confirming the start in a British city. end-to-end maritime logistics service “the greenest in the circle” end. The vessel, the first of its kind in the UK, is located in Ellesmere on the River Mersey, adjacent to the Manchester Ship Canal, operated by the Greater Peel Port Group. Starting in September, the new maritime logistics center will serve the route twice a week from Vigo. It is estimated that it will save about 17.5 million kilometers on road trips. Created in partnership with Suardiaz and Stellantis, the service will supply parts to the Ellesmere Port Vehicle Factory, the first of its plants to provide electric models for passenger and commercial vehicles exclusively with batteries. This new sea route that will serve the plant is expected to reduce annual CO2 emissions by 30% and energy consumption by 37%, compared to the road route.

Peel Port and Suardíaz invested a total of 11.1 million euros in the reactivation of the existing berth at the quay and began to install the necessary infrastructure to support the RoRo process (rolled containers) of their vessels and cargo. David Huck, COO of Peel Ports, highlighted that “a key part of achieving sustainability goals involves working in collaboration with like-minded companies, so it was fantastic to work alongside Suardiaz and Stellantis. The project is a progressive example of the collaboration needed to make the maritime and logistics sectors greener.” Juan Riva, president and CEO of Suardiaz, added for his part, “Suardiaz logistics provides a connection between Stellan’s factories in Vigo and Ellesmere Port in the United Kingdom, looking for an efficient maritime solution that reduces the impact on the environment. This new service will start as soon as the new facilities are completed. These the airline’s move will take trucks off the road, reducing road congestion and carbon emissions, and with our actions in using biofuels to power our boats and cold irons, we’re helping to foster a support chain that supports the spirit in which Stellar’s vehicles are built.”
