Nearly half of Americans favor peace deal in Ukraine

According to an Ipsos poll conducted by The Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the percentage of people who say the United States should urge Kyiv to reach an agreement, partly to reduce costs to American families, increased as compared to the previous year. 38 percent registered last July.

The Hill newspaper reported that a similar proportion (48 percent) in a recent poll said the White House should “support Ukraine for as long as it takes,” a percentage that was down 10 points from the summer poll.

However, two-thirds supported arms supplies and economic aid to the European country, while three-quarters supported the acceptance of Ukrainian refugees and sanctions on Russia.

Last week, the press here reported that the Joe Biden administration was reviewing the possibility of expanding United States Army training for Ukrainian forces, which would include training up to 2,500 soldiers per month at a North American base in Germany.

Since the start of the Russian special military operation in eastern Ukraine in February this year, Washington has approved aid and assistance packages for that country, including high-mobility artillery rocket systems.

According to Biden, the United States has delivered lethal military equipment in unprecedented quantities and will continue to do so, despite media alerts that only 30 percent of those shipments reach their destinations.

In addition, the White House announced sanctions targeting officials, military and their relatives in Russia.

For Moscow, Washington’s decision to arm Ukraine escalates tensions and makes so-called allies complicit in war crimes.

According to the head of the Kremlin’s foreign intelligence service, Sergei Naryshkin, the northern country is making every effort to maintain the conflict, despite the heavy losses of the Ukrainian armed forces and the impoverishment of the economies of European countries. energy crisis.

“To maintain its own hegemony, the United States is fueling tensions in different parts of the planet,” the official said, noting that the Americans and their allies manipulate the foci of the hostilities created in Ukraine. And used that region as a springboard against Russia.

A few days ago, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow is ready to hold talks with the United States, but without imposing the condition of stopping the special military operation in Ukraine.
