It looks like Sony Pictures has found the key to the “resurrection narrative” in Ghostbusters: Beyond. A success that showed itself in the form of a 200 million dollar worldwide collection has been very well treated by the executives since it arrived in theaters at a box office still recovering from the health pandemic. Of course, its budgeting effort is linked to the more likely sequel, which will be coming to our billboard again soon. The wait has become more impatient with the arrival of the new trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
The latest preview of the promotion shows that the city of New York has a problem of an esoteric nature, and of course, every movie buff knows perfectly well who to call in these cases. More than that, we were introduced to a new generation of heroes armed with the material from the original Ghostbusters. However, these rookies must face a supernatural threat of massive proportions that could plunge humanity into a second Ice Age. The trailer also offers a glimpse of the enemies the Spengler family must defeat, though luckily they won’t be alone in the fight. And the Japanese production company, together with its creators, did not want to miss the opportunity to see the original characters fighting their enemies again, with the sarcasm and comedy that have always characterized them.
Frozen Empire: back to the origins
If the previous adventure of the young ghost hunters showed us the nostalgia of the saga by discovering the iconic symbols of the heroes of the ’80s, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will do the same by returning to the fire station where everything is. The Spencers have already teamed up with the original members of the Beyond squad, joining forces with Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson), but now they’re officially joining as new-team signatures. That does not mean that the trio of ancient stars does not have an active character in the field, because this is the most important mission that the group faces.
This return to origin can be manifested through enemies known as Slimer (in Spain, he received the “affectionate” name of “Moquete”) or Vigo the Carpathian. However, as happened with its protagonists, this continuation will also create new villain characters for the saga in the scope of terrorífico Screaming.
A new enemy: Garraka
In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the ice phenomenon is created by a demon, surprisingly terrifying in design for a conventional IP. The creature is called Garraka, and from what the trailer explains, it feeds on the fear of humans, freezing everything in its path. It is a global problem that chills a large part of the city, but that is a unique opportunity for the family to form the official team against evil. Above all, if you see that the mayor of the city does not want to know about the return of these heroes,
Opposite Garraka, Gary Grooberson (Paul Rudd), Callie Spengler (Carrie Coon), Trevor Spengler (Finn Wolfhard), and Phoebe Spengler (McKenna Grace) will finally be part of the team called to permanently replace the titular Ghostbusters.
Who will appear in ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’?
Gil Kenan is directing after Jason Reitman returned us to the universe directed by his father, Ivan Reitman, in 1984. Kenan debuted in 2006 in the animated film Monster House and the remake of Poltergeist, where it is expected that he already has experience in the field of terror. Jason returns as a scriptwriter with Kenan, but this is not the only innovation in the production. Patton Oswalt and Kuman Nanjiani will provide a good dose of humor, and, on the other hand, Logan Kim and Celeste O’Connor will return. Annie Potts will return to play the team’s receptionist, Janine Melnitz, while William Atherton will once again play Walter Peck, the stalwart antagonist of the Ghostbusters.
Unfortunately, Sigourney Weaver is not returning. The loss serves as an exception to a sequel or reboot that wants to continue that meeting between the past and the future for many generations.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will be shown in theaters on March 22. It has been a month full of premieres since the same month. Besides the return of Ghostbusters, we have the arrival of some of the blockbusters of the year: Dune: Part Two, Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire, Kung Fu Panda, and others.
