NFC playoff photo: 49ers still in sixth place, two games behind Cardinals, says Ramso

Nashville – The 49ers in five wins in the last six games are good enough to make the playoffs.

Just don’t get confused with their NFC West expectations, they are now two games behind both the Arizona Cardinals and the Los Angeles Rams with three points remaining until all three reach a possible postseason.

If the playoffs start today, the 49ers (8-6) will be the No. 6 seed and own the second of the NFC’s three wild-card berths. In addition, they will be visiting defending champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers and San Mateo native Tom Brady, who may still be on “Super Wild-Card Weekend” right January 15-17.

Tuesday’s results saw the Los Angeles Rams (10-4) and Philadelphia Eagles (7-7) extend their playoff dominance with 10-point wins over the Seattle Seahawks (5-9) and Washington (6-8), respectively.

Now comes Week 16, which the 49ers will open on Thursday night with a trip to the AFC south-leading Tennessee Titans (9-5).

“There’s a lot of good stuff. There’s a lot of things to improve too,” said Jimmy Garoppolo. “It’s just, you know, December football. You never know which sport will determine your season or that sport and you are trying to be perfect. We’re all at this point, but you know, so you have to love it.”

The Green Bay Packers (11-3) won the NFC North, while the other divisions are led by the Arizona Cardinals (10-4), the Buccaneers (10-4) and the Dallas Cowboys (10-4).
