Nisshun approves the budget for 2022 – Daily Gazette

The Nisquna Town Board approved Budget 4-0 for 2022 during its monthly meeting on Thursday evening.

Board member John Della Ratta was absent from the meeting.

The $17.1 million budget would put the residential tax rate at $2.76 per $1,000 assessed value. The tax rate for non-residential property, such as commercial properties in the city, is proposed to increase by 1.2% to $6.08 in 2022, from $6.01 in 2021.

The budget will also use $46,000 in reserve funds.

“It’s balancing employee benefits and growth in the tree plantation program,” said supervisor Yasmin Syed.

The tree planting program will receive a $5,000 increase.

Other changes included a 2% cost of living adjustment increase for non-represented employees, totaling approximately $53,000. Another $17,000 increase is for employee benefits for Social Security and health insurance, covering the transition of a full-time employee to a part-time employee in the Court of Justice.

Syed said an additional approximately $20,000 was added to the supervisor’s budget so that if the next supervisor wanted to hire a full-time director of operations they could.
