North State Fishing Report for the week of November 26

Auroville Lake: The lake held at 29 percent, and the launch ramps at both Spillway and Bidwell are now open. Bass anglers are flooding newly open waters for excellent action with 3.5-inch dry creek tubes, small Kitek swimbaits, or Bass Union finesse jigs with a Yamamoto twin tail trailer at depths of 15 to 20 feet. Losing gear on submerged trees is the norm as the lake is little for king salmon trollers to return.

Trinity River, Willow Creek: The river conditions on the Lower Trinity are excellent. Most of the fishing pressure is upstream, but there should be some steelhead and some late fall kings still making their way from the lower end. Lower Trinity was closed for adult salmon retention as of November 1. The Highway 299 downstream of the Highway 299 Bridge to the Denny Road Bridge at Cedar Flats in Hawkins Bar is closed for fishing from September 1 to December 31. As of Sunday, the flow was near 1,640 cfs. On the whoopa gauge.

American River/Sacramento: The river is now closed to salmon from the hatchery at Ansel Hoffman Park to the SMUD power lines, but it is still open beneath it. Steelhead bites have been hit and miss and the numbers are still very low. A few “half-pounders” have been caught under the raid, and fly fishermen using egg-sucking leeches, intruders, egg patterns or other flies that have an orange in the tie are picking up one or two here and there. Recently there was a fresh push of salmon and the fish is spread across much of the river from Ansel Hoffmann to the mouth. Salmon are still being caught at the mouth of the river near Discovery Park and behind the university on the H Street and Howe Avenue bridges. River flow at Fair Oaks has come down slightly to 61cfs, but is still seasonally low.

Over the American River/Folsom: Chili Bar has flows at 164 cfs, and the river is clear and fishable. Quality Brown and Rainbow are sourced in the catch-and-release barbless hook only section above Folsom Dam. The American River watershed above Folsom Dam will be closed for a week before Memorial Day for bait fishing or the retention of trout.

Feather River: The lower river near Yuba is still cloudy but the fishing is viable and is getting better. The Outlet Hole Down to Live Oak Boat Ramp is now closed for the season. Half pounders and resident trout are still the best action, though there are live salmon sightings below the oak-starred Bend area. Gridley has low water flow but is fishable at 809 cfs.

Sacramento River, Red Bluff to Chico: Slow but clearing. The water level at Red Bluff rose on the 18th, but is back to almost normal at 4100cfs. and on Colusa Bridge where they are back fishable at 3923 cfs.

Sacramento River, Metro Area: Off-colour but clearing and fishable even after mid-week spike. Fishing is picked up at the end of the week, and the bite should continue through the following week. Salmon still lingers at the mouth of the American up to Garcia Bend. Water flow in Verona has almost returned to normal at 6589 cfs. The water flow back down to Freeport is fishable at 10,100 cfs.

Lake Shasta: Bites have slowed significantly since the middle of last week and most of the fish caught this week were plastic, A-rig, lipped and lipless cranks, or shallow dives 6 to 8 feet high. Water temperatures are hovering in the low 60s and visibility is still on the hazy side. Fishing for trout and bass has been the focus of all of late, and trout can be found around the dam and many of them are caught lining the surface. The trout look great, and their quality is just perfect. There has also been a good trout trolling with trout bites less than 20 feet near the mouth of Backbone Creek, using brightly colored junior optimizers trolled from side planers or trolling gold and orange speedy-shiners. Has been doing. The lake held at 24 percent capacity, and Bridge Bay is one of the only launch ramps available.
